Learn about the mills and associated houses on the stretch of Fall Creek alongside The Byway.

Saturday, June 29, 11am.
Walk and Talk: The Byway.

Led by Bruce Brittain, sponsored by Historic Ithaca.

“The Byway is a former loop of Forest Home Drive along Fall Creek in the Town of Ithaca. This short stretch of road has the highest density of nineteenth century mill remnants and mill-era houses in Forest Home.”

Meet at the end of The Byway that is adjacent to the downstream bridge. No charge, but registration is encouraged.

Here is a map from 1866 showing Forest Home, then known as Free Hollow, with houses and mills.

Bill Goodman, Town Supervisor for the Town of Ithaca, has requested this meeting with the Forest Home community on issues related to the Department of Public Works. In particular, he has indicated that the condition of the stretch of Forest Home Drive between Judd Falls Road and McIntyre Place has deteriorated further following the recent snowstorm. The idea of closing that section of road to vehicles has surfaced again.

The meeting will be at the Forest Home Chapel on December 5, 7:30-9pm

This meeting also offers an opportunity for updates and/or discussions on other Public Works issues related to roads and pedestrian sidewalks/walkways.

This is a reminder to those of you who are available that this coming Saturday, May 5, is our annual clean-up day. We’ll meet at the Forest Home Park.  We’ll start promptly at 9:00 AM.

I will provide coffee, orange juice and decadent (and a few wholesome) baked goods. If you have work gloves, bring them. I’ll have a few pairs to share.

The weather should be good and this is the  best time to clean up since it will be easier to see and remove debris before leaf growth covers it up.

Hope to see some of you there.

The presentation will take place at Forest Home Chapel.

Also, as a reminder, Cornell is holding three community meetings this week specifically about the East Hill Village project. For more details, visit:
